The Recherche Data Gouv catalog is a platform designed to centralize and facilitate access to datasets from French scientific research. Its goal is to enhance the discoverability of French datasets. It is designed to provide institutions with a clear overview of their laboratories’ scientific output, offer European catalogs a single entry point for data harvesting, and enable scientists to discover datasets from fields related to their own, thereby facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration.
To achieve this, the catalog incorporates artificial intelligence technologies to improve search capabilities and to supplement the metadata of the harvested datasets.

About the use of AI in the Catalog
In keeping with this approach, the catalog offers an interface based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP) standard. This protocol enables language models (LLMs) and conversational agents to query dataset collections directly using natural language. It thereby facilitates cross-cutting exploration of metadata—such as comparing methodologies, identifying key teams, or detecting interdisciplinary links—within a single work session.
