Walking routes meeting CNIG accessibility standard within Nantes’ island (Loire-Atlantique, France)

In 2021, the French National Council for Geographic Information (CNIG) published a standard dedicated to the accessibility of walking routes, in accordance with the French 2019 Mobility Orientation Law. Nantes Métropole is one of the pilot areas that participated in drafting the standard.

The dataset presented here is an extract from data collected during preliminary experiments conducted by Nantes Métropole and formatted to the Accessibility standard. The data is located on the Île de Nantes and lists several types of objects: walking paths, pedestrian crossings, obstacles, stairs, and parking spaces for people with reduced mobility.

The detailed nature of the information collected means that the cost of collection is high, and few local authorities have yet published data that complies with this standard.

This extract was used in experiments on mobility aids for visually impaired people conducted by LabCom inmob (a partnership between the GEOLOC laboratory at Gustave Eiffel University and the company Okeenea Digital).

The open data publication has been made with the agreement of Nantes Métropole, which is the data producer, and aims to facilitate the reuse of the research work carried out.

A data paper describing the dataset and the different layers it contains has been pre-published on HAL.
