Network of Competence Centers

Updated at: 30/03/2026

This network is composed of various centers of expertise accredited by Recherche Data Gouv (or in the process of accreditation): data management clusters, thematic reference centers, institutional reference centers, and resource centers.

The network is coordinated by the Data management cluster Office, composed of:

  • Stéphanie Cheviron (University of Strasbourg) (2022–present)
  • Alexis Arnaud (University of Grenoble Alpes) (2022–present)
  • Alicia León y Barella (University of Lille) (2025–present)

Former members: Stéphanie Castex (University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne) (2022–2025)

Contact the office: ateliers-donnee-bureau@groupes.renater.fr

Network working groups

Any member of the ecosystem may apply to join the following working groups through the Data Workshops Office.

Facilitators : William Demet (Université de Toulouse Capitole), Virgile Jarrige (Université de Strasbourg), François Quéré (BNU)

It identifies and, where necessary, develops and shares tools to support the ecosystem. In particular, it is working on a chatbot (beta version in development), a catalog of applications designed for the storage and management of research data, and the implementation of a one-stop shop via a shared ticketing system. The group also contributes to the development of indicators using a customizable GRIST template.

2 tools developed as part of the working group:

Chatbot SO - https://chatso-test.app.unistra.fr/
Folder Structure Generator - https://fsg-test.app.unistra.fr/

Facilitators: Florence Bouchet Moneret (University of Lorraine) and Agnès Faller (University of Reims)

It is responsible for cataloging and promoting training resources, both general and discipline-specific. It also helps organize webinars, particularly within the framework of Skills4EOSC. It develops training programs for new workshop staff or for staff who need to build their skills in specific areas of research data management.

Survey on Training Practices and Needs

Members of WG recently released a survey report on the training practices and needs of data workshop staff. You can read it by following this link: https://hal.science/hal-04356697.

Facilitators: Lucie Albaret (University of Grenoble Alpes) and Alicia Léon y Barella (University of Lille)

It serves as a space for exploring cross-cutting topics identified by the network (ethics, collaborative research, coordination of scientific outputs, etc.). It produces practical guides or similar resources and maintains a shared Zotero library that catalogs all the practical guides created by the centers of expertise.

WG Deliverables:

Check out: A Zotero library designed by WG3 that compiles all the practical guides produced by the data workshops: https://www.zotero.org/groups/5243029/adld-fichespratiques/library

And also the french online module “The Basics of FAIR” developed by Working Group of the Data Workshops Network in collaboration with the DoRANum Resource Center.

Moderators: Maria Grazia Santangelo (Inria) and Samrit Mainali (Paris Saclay University)

He works on issues related to research software, as they may be addressed in centers of expertise: development of a machine-actionable form for FAIR management of research software in data management plans; development of recommendations for software management; development of a tool to assist in selecting a software forge, implemented within the CatOPIDoR platform; reflection on software replicability; development of a resource on software typology; production of an educational resource on the software lifecycle, which will be implemented within the DoRANum platform. The working group contributes to structuring best practices around the development, sharing, and sustainability of scientific software, with forward-looking reflection on its integration with a future network of academic OSPOs.

Working Group Deliverables:

Development of a french questionnaire dedicated to source codes and research software available in DMP OPIDoR, designed in collaboration with the relevant team

Facilitators : Léna Bouillard (Université Bourgogne Europe), Fiona Edmond (Université Rennes 2)

It focuses on issues related to the preservation and curation of research data. In particular, it is developing a practical guide on criteria for curating research data (in collaboration with the Aurore section of the Association of French Archivists) and producing deliverables, such as a report on lessons learned for the CoSO Data Working Group regarding support for research teams in data preservation. Within the network of centers of expertise, his role is to clarify and disseminate best practices in the management and archiving of research data, as well as to strengthen ties between librarians, information specialists, and archivists.

Facilitator : Alexis Arnaud (Université Grenoble Alpes)

It aims to integrate environmental considerations into practices related to research data and digital tools through the activities of the network of centers of expertise. It focuses particularly on training aspects (analysis of current practices, critical review of content, identification of specific needs) as well as on potential updates to data management plans (DMPs) that incorporate sustainability criteria.
