Multidisciplinary data from a connected home since 2019

In the field of interdisciplinary modeling of residential homes, access to "observation" data over long periods never simultaneously combines spatial precision AND temporal precision AND precision in identifying uses and users.

This lack of access to this type of data implies "a blind spot" for open research to study the social and technical issues of the energy transition.

It is in this context that the Expe-smarthouse project was initiated in 2019 in order to provide data from a 120 m² home, where a family of 5 people lives, with time scales of less than a minute or on an event. Currently, this project provides access to about 370 measurement points, also accessible in real time via a web visualization portal “Grafana” powered by a time series-oriented database “Influxdb”. This smart home is developed based on Open Source hardware and software. The system is also flexible regarding the addition of new technologies or sensors.

In the dataset presented, the measurements made available are:

  • Structural and implementation data of the house (plans, insulation, geographical location)
  • Electricity and gas consumption of each device
  • Air analysis of each room
  • Brightness of each room
  • Opening position of each door and window
  • Motion detectors
  • Lighting status
  • Outdoor weather conditions
  • Photovoltaic production data
  • Electricity storage data
  • Data from the electric vehicle associated with the house
  • Documentation of the various devices

The current dataset covers the dates from October 2019 to May 2024 and is updated every 6 months.
