All the richness of Recherche Data Gouv through our selections of datasets
The Recherche Data Gouv editorial board regularly introduces you to some of the many datasets nestled in the heart of the repository.
They reflect the great diversity of French research and its richness. They also reflect multidisciplinary research that is close to the major challenges facing our society, to the point where it often resonates with current events.
The latest highlights reveal, for example, a dataset on brown algae, crucial for our coastal ecosystems, and all the data of a connected home studied in the Expe-SmartHouse project. Another example is a corpus of journalistic cartographies on energy security published by European newspapers since the beginning of the war in Ukraine...
But the quality of a dataset also depends on more technical criteria, documentation and compliance with the FAIR principles. This includes:
• Files preferably saved in an open format,
• A clear tree structure and an explicit naming,
• A README file, which describes the context of data production and all the elements allowing a future user to understand the organisation of the dataset,
• Rich metadata, optimising the chances of findability and interoperability of the dataset…
Is there an ideal dataset? Maybe not, but very good datasets, yes!
