Recherche Data Gouv has one year
Just one year ago, on July 8, 2022, the French Minister for Higher Education and Research inaugurated Recherche Data Gouv.
This first anniversary is an opportunity to reflect on the ecosystem's evolution!
In practice, the structuring of data support
The "Data Management Cluster" label is a powerful way for support services to consolidate their position in France.
These clusters, spread across the country, provide research teams with local expertise in the rational management of their research data. The number of workshops is growing by the month, thanks to calls for expressions of interest. The ecosystem now includes 15 data management clusters, either accredited or on their way to being accredited, bringing together the expertise of several institutions on the same research site.
These clusters involve more than 340 people, for a total of around 85 full-time equivalents (FTE). A total of 73 different institutions, the majority of which are universities, grandes écoles and research organizations, are involved in their governance and implementation.
The services covered by all the data management clusters cover all stages of the data lifecycle. At the national level, the clusters offer a range of more than 140 services, covering general or thematic subjects, user guidance, the drafting of data management plans, or even support in depositing data in a data repository.
As we celebrate this first anniversary, a third call [LB1] for expressions of interest to obtain the Data Management Cluster label is drawing to a close, which will see a further increase in the number of workshops awarded the label.
The research data repository is a source in its own
One year after its launch, the multi-disciplinary Recherche Data Gouv repository hosts more than 2,000 datasets, corresponding to 36,000 data files, either fully open or shared with restricted access when the nature of the data so requires. Some 288,500 files have been downloaded since July 8, 2022.
Within the national repository, public research institutions in France can have their own institutional space. We now have around thirty active institutional spaces, and many more are in the process of being created. In addition, 30 training courses have been organized over the past year, for a total of 614 participants.
Ecosystem players forge links
Numerous meetings have taken place since July 2022, including:
- September 14, 2022: 1st meeting of the "labelled" and "on the trajectory" data management clusters;
- March 13 - 14, 2022: Repository-catalog team seminar;
- March 27, 2023: Meeting between the Earth System Environment thematic reference centers and the data management clusters;
- June 6, 7 and 8, 2023 Residential seminar: Data management clusters, thematic reference centers, institutional reference centers brought together;
- Numerous speeches and presentations of the ecosystem at various national events, such as the Printemps de la donnée 2023 event.
