Levels of curation

Updated at: 08/08/2024
  1. Content distributed as deposited
  2. Basic curation
  3. Enhanced curation
  4. Data-level curation
  5. Choice of curation level in the repository

The Recherche Data Gouv Repository works with the levels of curation defined by the international CoreTrustSeal organisation:

Level A: Content distributed as deposited

  • This level is not accepted in the Recherche Data Gouv Repository without subsequent curation.

Level B: Basic curation

  • There is sufficient metadata and documentation to understand the context of data production.

Level C: Enhanced curation

  • Conversion to open or widely used formats if necessary;
  • With a precise description of the production, organisation and structuring of data:
    • Data dictionary, README, data management plan, etc., documenting the controlled schemas and vocabularies used for variables and values;
    • Information on the origin of data.

Level D: Data-level curation

  • Annotation and editing of data: this requires expertise in the scientific field.

Choice of curation level in the repository

The collection administrator should select the level of curation.

Nevertheless, all datasets deposited in the Recherche Data Gouv Repository are subject to curation which focuses on documentary quality and guarantees at least level B curation as per the CoreTrustSeal definitions.

Authors are solely responsible for the scientific quality of the data and making sure the legislation on data dissemination rights is respected.
