The aim of curation
Updated at: 07/03/2024
Curation consists of checking the dataset complies with the rules established by the Repository-Registry resource centre and by the collection's administrator. The aim is to ensure the published data can be effectively understood and to promote the data's reuse in compliance with the FAIR principles.
It covers:
- the completeness of the metadata (please see the Guide to entering metadata);
- the existence of additional documentation like a README file or data dictionary or internal documentation within the data when self-documenting formats are used (e.g. HDF5 format);
- the format of the data files which should be open or widely used by the community concerned;
- the presence of a licence and details of the data's terms of use if necessary.
